Food Fit Philly

Regular physical activity is one of the best things you can do for your health.  Physical activity can be any movement – walking, biking, dancing, and sports – as long as you are having fun.  You can even break it up into 10-minute bursts throughout the day. It all adds up!

Along with healthy eating, physical activity helps you to:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Reduce your risk for diseases like diabetes, heart disease
    and some cancers
  • Build strong muscles and bones
  • Improve your mental health and mood

How much
physical activity?

To stay healthy, aim for:

Children and teens: at least 60 minutes each day.

Adults: at least 30 minutes each day.

Get Healthy Philly aims to make it easier to be active in Philadelphia. Here's how we are helping people to increase their physical activity:

  • Active Schools: Increasing opportunities for physical activity
before, during and after school, including fitness clubs,
    movement breaks, and socialized recess.
  • Active Communities: Promoting use of Philadelphia's many free parks, trails and pools; providing fun and affordable fitness programs in recreation centers.
  • Active Transportation: Creating new bike lanes and safety programs to help people safely walk and bike to work; promoting
public transit; increasing safe routes for kids to walk and ride to school.
