Healthy Food Business Program

In order to create opportunities for potential business owners, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and the Department of Commerce have launched the Healthy Food Business Program to support entrepreneurs planning to open new healthy food businesses in Philadelphia. The program prioritizes businesses in neighborhoods that lack access to healthy food options and will give preference to applicants who reside in one of the targeted zip codes. Minority, women, or disabled-owned businesses are also encouraged to apply.  To apply, businesses must:

  • Be interested in opening a produce market or other healthy food business( i.e. produce market, restaurants, co-ops, community kitchen spaces and smoothie bars)
  • Be located in an eligible zip code
  • Commit to not selling tobacco-related products
  • Be tax-compliant and obtain all necessary licenses and certifications.

Please see this flyer for more information.

If you are interested in opening a healthy food business and think you meet the criteria, complete the assessment form and email to prince.ebo@phila.gov by January 11th.
